ANNOUNCEMENTS

7 March 2010

PLEASE WEAR YOUR NAME TAGS SO THAT VISITORS (AND PARISHIONERS) KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

IT IS AN ACT OF HOSPITALITY.

FOR LENT BOTH SERVICES ARE BEGINNING IN SILENCE.  There will be no entrance or procession at the beginning of the service.  The altar party will be on the altar in silent prayer five minutes before the service starts.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be held on Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. for the rest of Lent.  Come join in this powerful devotion.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS NEXT SUNDAY, 14 March.  Please remember to set your clocks ahead one hour.

WORKSHOP ROTATION CELEBRATION:  Join us next Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in the parish hall for our celebration of the Beatitudes.  Everyone in the parish is encouraged to attend.

PAULINE’S STOCKPOT KITCHEN: The next dates for St. John’s are Friday, March 12th and March 26th.  Those who wish to volunteer please let Linda or Jack Bond know which night or nights that you plan on helping. This will ensure that we will be able to plan our task schedule. Thanks.  860-627-9507 Linda and Jack.

EMMA WILLARD SCHOOL is coming to St. John’s again this year.  Nine students and two chaperones will be arriving today, 7 March and leaving on Friday, 12 March.  They will be staying in our parish hall and will be working with Habitat for Humanity from Tuesday through Friday.  They would love to have parishioners working with them at any point during the week.  Fr. Torrey will be working with them on Wednesday.  Please let Fr. Torrey know if you plan to work with the girls during the week.

SPRING CLEANUP:  Bring you gloves, rakes and brooms and help make St. John’s beautiful for Easter!  We will have two cleanup sessions.  The first following church (11:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 21 March and the second on Saturday, 27 March at 9:00 a.m.

CARDS FOR DONNA may be sent to her home: P.O. Box 691, Coventry, CT  06238.

CONFIRMATION GROUP:  A group looking toward the possibility of Confirmation or Reception in the Episcopal Church will be starting up soon after Easter.  Confirmation is the sacrament in which young people (16 or older) make a mature commitment to Christ.  Adults please read on!  Confirmation or Reception is also the process by which someone from another Christian tradition becomes an Episcopalian.  A brief meeting further explaining this process will be held on Sunday, 11 April at 9:15 a.m. in the parish hall.
